Make your own Bible

Make your own Bible. Select and collect all the words and sentences that in all your readings have been to you like the blast of a trumpet.

—Ralph Waldo Emerson (via Dense Discovery)

Recently I went back through my blog to find a quote or a link—doesn’t matter. By and large this blog is a place to share ideas from other people that resonate with me. It’s something I’ve been doing off-and-on since 2012-ish.

Skimming through the archive made me realize the importance of that practice. Some concepts have stuck with me for years and greatly influenced the way I think about things today. And the beauty of it is that I have this record—this bible, per Emerson—that I can look back on.

It’s interesting to see how over the years I went from saving thoughts on the craft of design and code to the art of collaborating and leadership. Moving forward I’d like to save more ideas that reflect my personal values outside of work or a professional context. In another 5 years I hope can look back and use this to remind myself of what I truly value.
