Running in circles
Ryan Singer, head of product strategy at Basecamp, in a post from 2017:
The most important question for a team isn’t “what is left?” but “what is unknown?” Can you see the edges? Have you gone in there and seen everything that needs to change? The only way to gain certainty is to roll up your sleeves and engage with the reality of problem.
Building design capacity in an organization without a history of design is like exploring the world of an RPG video game.
I’ve been comparing … to world maps in a lot of video games. You press pause to see where -you are on the map, but the map only shows you the areas you’ve already explored. Everything else is obscured, fogged over, or blacked out. Sometimes you explore as many areas as possible just to reveal the map, then you get to work on the actual quest.
